The exhibition takes a tour of a period in the history of Madrid considered as a benchmark and foundation for the modernization of the educational and pedagogical system in Spain. The stories of the dozens of school groups formed in Madrid during the first decades of the 20th century are rescued through objects, photographs, audiovisuals and didactic material.
Most of the sample is devoted to the transition from a unitary school (one class and one teacher for all students) to a graduated school (several grades and teachers). This meant the creation of new didactic and social spaces (classrooms, libraries, laboratories, workshops, gyms, patios, dining rooms, etc.); as well as new materials and pedagogical systems.
